    Formal Logic and Language.D. P. Gorskii - 1963 - Russian Studies in Philosophy 2 (1):49-68.
Science studies not only material entities and phenomena, but their reflections in the minds of men, in the form of sensations, perceptions, concepts, and the like. The study of a phenomenon like language involves simultaneous examinations of material entities and the aspect of language which pertains to meaning, which takes shape as a result of man's reflection in cognition of the world around him.

On the Means of Generalizing Scientific Theory.D. P. Gorskii - 1967 - Russian Studies in Philosophy 5 (4):29-38.
The empirical level of research in the experimental sciences always involves description of what is found by observation and experimentation. These descriptions most often take the form of tables of various sorts . In the process of compiling tables of functions, the method of smoothing-out data plays a significant role. It is often performed by graph procedures. This work results in the formulation of laws, general relationships, which are clothed, in mathematical natural science, in the form of empirical or semi-empirical (...)

    D. P. Gorskii. Generalization and Cognition.N. I. Stiazhkin & Jack J. Levin - 1987 - Russian Studies in Philosophy 26 (1):88-91.
The use of logico-semiotic and systems-structural approaches in the analysis of types of abstraction and forms of generalization of concepts was begun in the '50s and '60s by D. P. Gorskii, who at that time introduced the concept of idealization into the terminology. In the early '70s he continued his analysis of the problem of scientific understanding, delineating the specific features of definitions in the theories of natural sciences and in the social science disciplines. In the book under review, (...)

On the Typology of Musical Perception.Dmitrii Alekseevich Dyatlov - 2022 - Philosophy and Culture (Russian Journal) 10:1-11.
Throughout the 20th century, the theory and history of performing arts repeatedly attempted to systematize various phenomena in the field of interpretation of works of academic music. The number of performing styles and types in various researches has risen dramatically, until the beginning of this century when it was reduced to a single concept - to the category of an individual style. This topic was discussed mainly in research papers devoted to the theory of pianism. The results of their observations (...)

The Justification of Noncombatant Casualties in Wartime.P. A. Woodward - 2009 - International Journal of Applied Philosophy 23 (1):151-161.
As the United States is currently prosecuting two wars, it is important to consider whether those wars, and the resulting noncombatantcasualties, can be morally justified. Such consideration can be initiated by considering some of Alan Donagan’s work in his book The Theory of Morality. In that book Donagan sets out to develop, as a philosophical system, that part of the common morality according to the Hebrew-Christian tradition, which does not depend on any theistic beliefs. According to that tradition it is (...)

    Reasoning About Permitted Announcements.P. Balbiani & P. Seban - 2011 - Journal of Philosophical Logic 40 (4):445-472.
We formalize what it means to have permission to say something. We adapt the dynamic logic of permission by van der Meyden (J Log Comput 6(3):465–479, 1996 ) to the case where atomic actions are public truthful announcements. We also add a notion of obligation. Our logic is an extension of the logic of public announcements introduced by Plaza ( 1989 ) with dynamic modal operators for permission and for obligation. We axiomatize the logic and show that it is decidable.

  37. Limits in the Field of Consciousness.P. Sven Arvidson - 1990 - Dissertation, Georgetown University
Aron Gurwitsch claims that the field of consciousness is invariantly organized in a theme, thematic field, margin pattern. However, at least two perceptual presentations, chaos and boundlessness, are not ordered in accordance with this pattern. The question this study poses then is the following: given Gurwitsch's field-theory of experiential organization, what is the structure, status, and function of chaos and boundlessness in the field of consciousness? ;Using Gurwitsch's field-theory organization as a base, the structure of thematic chaos and then of (...)

Interpretation of epicardial mapping by means of computer simulations: Applications to calcium, lidocaine and to BRL 34915.P. Auger, R. Cardinal, A. Bril, L. Rochette & A. Bardou - 1992 - Acta Biotheoretica 40 (2-3):161-168.
The aim of this work was to compare experimental investigations on effects of lidocaine, calcium and, BRL 34915 on reentries to simulated data obtained by use of a model of propagation based on the Huygens' constriction method already described in previous works. Calcium and lidocaine effects are investigated on anisotropic conduction conditions. In both cases, reduction in conduction velocities are observed. In lidocaine case, a refractory area is located along the longitudinal axis. In agreement with experimental electrical mapping, the simulations (...)

    Nancy Davis and the Means-End Relation.P. A. Woodward - 2003 - American Catholic Philosophical Quarterly 77 (3):437-457.
In her paper, “The Doctrine of Double Effect: Problems of Interpretation,” Nancy Davis attempts to find an interpretation of the means-end relationship that would provide a foundation for the Doctrine of Double Effect (DDE) and its reliance on the distinction between what an agent intends or brings about intentionally and what that agent merely foresees will result from his/her action, but does not intend (or bring about intentionally). Davis’s inability to find such an interpretation lessens the plausibility of the view (...)

Ideal interpretation is understanding a text in the best possible way. It is usually used when the text has a canonical status, such as the Bible or the U.S. Constitution. We argue that Zhu Xi’s view about interpreting the Four Books and Ronald Dworkin’s view about constitutional interpretation are examples of ideal interpretation and that their basic principles are similar. Each holds, roughly, that their target text contains moral truth; that the author’s mind requires the mediation of learning; that the (...)
